Study on reducing the generation of general waste

Aoki, Isao; ; Haga, Tetsuya; ; Sudo, Katsuo; Tsunashima, Yasumichi;

JNC TN8420 2000-005, 42 Pages, 2000/04

JNC-TN8420-2000-005.pdf:2.09MB

On August 1999, the Director of Tokai Work proposed an activity regarding recycling and reuse of general waste generated from Tokai Works. The activity was initiated by the Waste Management and Fuel Cycle Research Center, and is now being in progress through out the Tokai Works. In the course of this activity, Plutonium Fuel Center had settled the Working Group and the issues related to the waste reduction have been examined. This report collects the problems that became obvious through the survey of existing segregation method, treatment process, and the amount of the waste generation, and accounts for the concrete methodology for the recycling and reuse of general waste. In order to reduce waste, it is necessary to aware of the facing issues and adopt the countermeasures proposed in this report whenever possible. The activity will then leads us to reduce waste generation, which in turn will enable us to make 100 % waste recycling possible.

System concept for FBR cycle data base

Kofuji, Hirohide; ; *; *;

JNC TN9400 2000-055, 49 Pages, 2000/03

JNC-TN9400-2000-055.pdf:2.07MB

Accompanying with the progress of the "Feasibility study on FBR cycle system; FS" , various kinds of technical information, facility design parameters, and related data will be obtained and they should be stored in data bases and be used as fundamental data for the FS. So the several data bases are going to be set up at each section and controlled by the management system through a local area network. Among above data bases, a prototype of FBR cycle data base that will record data for FBR scenario study and synthetic assessment is to be completed in. Phase l by fiscal year 2000, so the data base system concept has been examined in the current fiscal year, 1999. As the results of the system concept examination, two types of prototypes have been selected, one is to be set up as the data table containing digital data that are extracted from technical papers, another is as image data of papers with index information. Referring to examples of data bases in other companies, it was kept in mind to use a package software for general purpose and to utilize data existing now.

JNC TN9200 2000-001, 133 Pages, 2000/02

JNC-TN9200-2000-001.pdf:6.8MB

The 11th Meeting for Reporting Safety Research on FBR and ATR was held at the exhibition hall (TECHNO O-ARAI) in OEC on the 15th of December in 1999. The reports of each subject in FY1996-1998 were presented before discussion at this meeting. The 11 subjects had been selected from the subjects (34 in total) on power reactor in fast breeder reactor, earthquake-proof and probabilistic safety assessment according to the decisions of sub-meetings in Sectional Meeting of Safety Research. This meeting was open to the public, and large attendance outside of JNC was invited for the purpose of getting some advice from related specialists. This report contains presentation papers, questions and answers, list of attendance, etc. Refer to the JNC open report for detailed results of safety research in FY1996-1998.

Disassembly and removal of 50MW steam generator test facility; Disassembly and sodium removal of the large cold trap

JNC TN9410 2000-003, 52 Pages, 1999/12

JNC-TN9410-2000-003.pdf:3.51MB

In May, 1999, disassembly and cleansing of sodium residues contained in the large cold trap (50MWSG) were carried out. Two cold trap units, one from the primary sodium loop and the other from the for the secondary sodium loop were disassembled and cleaned. This report describes the procedures, methods, and tasks under taken in the clean-up effort, including countermeasures for safe handling of sodium. The disassembly of the cold trap was based an information regarding similar cleansing activities external to JNC. There was also same a priori knowledge of the type and amount of sodium-laden residues. As this result, we conducted disassembly and cleansing task as provisionally planned. In fact we learned that disassembly methods for the specific components could be conducted in an aerated atmosphere. We thus gained additional disassembly and sodium cleansing experience under manageable and safe conditions.
